Online courses

We deliver almost all WSET qualifications online through the WSET Online Classroom.

The current exception is the Level 3 Award in Sake.

A: The WSET Online Classroom is WSET’s e-learning platform.

The platform enhances textbook study with a range of educational materials and activities, including videos, quizzes, games, tasting exercises and a student forum where you can connect with classmates.

A: A dedicated online educator is available to answer your questions during the course.

The Online Classroom support team can also help with support on the platform.

A: You'll need to source your own samples.

We'll guide you on what to buy, with recommendations for each qualification. You'll share your tasting notes with your educator, who'll provide feedback to help you develop your palate.

For Level 3 and Level 4 Diploma courses, we'll also run tasting tutorials to help you build your skills.

A: For Levels 1 and 2, examinations are completed online through a Remote Invigilation service. You'll receive information on how this works once you have enrolled.

Please note that all online exams are scheduled in UK time.

For Levels 3 and 4, exams must be sat in person and each course has set examination date(s).

A: Full access to online materials and educator support is available during the advertised course dates.

Read-only access is then available:

  • for one year following the advertised start date for Levels 1-3 courses; and

  • for three years following the advertised start date for Level 4 Diploma courses.

A. Existing users of the WSET Online Classroom should use their previous login details. You can reset your password using the forgotten password option.

New users will receive an email from the WSET Online Classroom with login details at least two weeks before the course start date.

If you don't receive this, please check your spam folder first.

If you still need help, please contact WSET School.

Study materials and attending classes

Study materials can be delivered by courier. You'll receive a text from the courier with a delivery date and someone will need to sign for the delivery.

Three delivery attempts will be made.

After your booking has been processed:

  • UK-based students will receive their materials within 10 working days; and

  • overseas students will receive their materials within 15 working days.

If you have not received your materials within this timeframe, please contact WSET School.

All study materials for Level 1 online courses and the Level 4 Diploma in Wines are provided online through the eBook platform.

Level 1-3 exams and results

A. When you book a course with WSET School, you will automatically be registered for the exam or exams included with your course.

We will email you with details including the exam date, location, start time and what you need to bring.

For some courses, the exam takes place on the final day of the course.

A: If you are studying a Level 1 or Level 2 online course, you will take your exam through a Remote Invigilation service.

The WSET School Exams Team will email you with the information you need. All online exams are scheduled in UK time.

A: Please tell the WSET School Exams Team as soon as possible.

You can request to transfer or cancel your exam, but notice periods, fees and terms apply.

A minimum of 12 working days’ notice is required to transfer or cancel a Level 1–3 exam. If you contact us within 12 working days of the exam, you will normally need to pay the full exam fee unless extenuating circumstances apply.

If you do not attend and have not contacted us, you will need to pay the full fee to book another exam.

A: Instalment plans are available for the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines if you are a UK resident and have a UK bank account.

To pay by instalments, you must book through Student Services at least one month before your course starts.

A: Please check the current exam and resit schedule for available dates, fees and booking deadlines.

A: You can book a resit after receiving a Fail result.

You cannot resit an exam that you have already passed simply to try to achieve a higher grade.

Please check the current exam and resit schedule for available dates and fees, then contact the WSET School Exams Team to book.

A. If serious or unexpected circumstances prevent you from attending your exam, please contact the WSET School Exams Team.

The team will send you a form to complete and ask you to provide supporting evidence. Your application will be reviewed and you will be told the outcome.

Yes. WSET’s policy is that students should not be placed at a disadvantage during an assessment.

Please contact the WSET School Exams Team before your course starts. You should also read the information about reasonable adjustments in the specification for your qualification.

A. WSET updates qualification materials from time to time.

If your qualification has changed, you must take any outstanding resit before the expiry date for the version you originally studied.

If the expiry date has passed, you may need to buy the current study materials because some of the examinable content may have changed.

A. The current expected result times are:

  • Level 1 and Level 2: approximately four weeks after the exam;

  • Level 3: approximately 10 weeks after the exam; and

  • Online exams: up to four weeks.

We will email your results once they are available

A. If you pass, you will receive a digital certificate and badge.

You need a validated WSET account to receive your certificate. If you booked through the website, you will have created and validated your account during the booking process.

Your results letter will include a QR code and link to claim your certificate. You can download and print the certificate or share the digital version online.

A. Students who successfully complete a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification will receive a lapel pin by post, normally around six weeks after the results are issued.

Please make sure WSET School has your current delivery address. We cannot accept responsibility for a pin sent to an old address if we were not told about the change.

A. You can apply for an enquiry, sometimes called a remark, and request feedback on your exam result.

You may also be able to request a percentage breakdown.

Applications are subject to a deadline and fee. Please follow the instructions in the current enquiry and feedback guidance.

Level 4 Diploma exam and results

A. When you register for the Diploma, we will automatically enrol you for the exams included with your course.

Semester 1 includes:

  • D1 Wine Production;

  • D2 Wine Business;

  • D4 Sparkling Wines; and

  • D5 Fortified Wines.

Semester 2 includes:

  • D3 Wines of the World exams; and

If your course includes both semesters, your exams will be allocated when you enrol.

Your booking confirmation and course programme will show your scheduled exams. We will also email you before each exam with the location, start time and details of what you need to bring.

A: Diploma exams take place at the same time around the world.

The awarding body needs time to organise exam papers, tasting samples and candidate registrations. For this reason, WSET School cannot change an exam booking after the registration deadline has passed without the relevant fees or process applying.

A: When you enrol, you are registered for a three-year period in which you can take your exams.

If you need more time, you can apply to extend your registration. A fee applies.

A: Contact the WSET School Exams Team before the registration deadline if you need to change an exam date.

Before the deadline, you can transfer to another date by paying an administration fee.

After the deadline, you will normally need to pay the full exam fee when you rebook because WSET School will already have incurred the examination costs.

If you do not attend without telling us, the full exam fee will also apply when you rebook

A: Yes.

You must sit D1 before D2 and D2 before the remaining exams. You do not need to have passed D1 or D2 before progressing, but you must have taken them.

If you move D1 to a date after D2, you will also need to move D2.

If you move D2 to a date after D4 and D5, you will also need to move D4 and D5.

A separate administration fee applies to each exam moved.

You cannot resit an exam that you have already passed simply to try to achieve a higher grade.

Please check the current exam and resit schedule for available dates and fees, then contact the WSET School Exams Team to book.

A. Yes. You can arrange to sit a Diploma exam with another WSET course provider.

You will need to contact the new provider directly and make the arrangements yourself. The provider may charge an additional exam or administration fee.

WSET School exam fees are non-refundable, so you will not receive a refund for an exam you choose to take elsewhere.

Please tell the WSET School Exams Team so we can remove you from the relevant exam with WSET School.

Results for exams taken with another provider will normally be sent to that provider, who will then send them to you.

A. Diploma results take approximately 12 weeks to be issued to WSET School.

Once we receive them, we need a few days to prepare and send the results because we receive a large number at the same time.

If 13 weeks have passed and you have not received your results, please contact the WSET School Exams Team.
